I had an interesting game of Australian Rails last night with a friend of mine. It is the first time I have seen someone win the game without really building a rain network in the Southeast. His network basically covered the Northern Area and West Coast, with a line running down the East Coast to pick up the major cities. Mine was basically in the Southeast, with a single line running up toe Cairns, and then I did manage to get a line to Perth. I do not normally manage that. Quite a challen ...More Read More

It would appear that my blog is now being moderated. I will be very circumspect with what is posted from now on. That is if I post anything.

There are times when I wonder if I live on the same planet as some of the other members of the forum. There is the current discussion of whether or not you can go anywhere on this planet, or ship to anywhere on this planet within a couple of days, assuming that you have unlimited funds. The problem that they holders of this view do not bother to consider is that very few people or organizations on this planet have unlimited funds to spend how they want too. They also do not plug into the equ ...More Read More

I was working, sort of, on Ogame prior to setting it to vacation mode, as I had someone regularly snooping around. I dosed off for a while, and then for some reason woke up. The snooper had changed into attacker, and I cannot go on vacation when someone is coming to visit. Well, I had about 20 minutes and a fair amount of Dark Matter to speed up production. I massively boosted my defenses, to the tune of 18 Plasma Cannon and 1000 Rocket Launchers, loaded a much Crystal and Deuterium on my fl ...More Read More

While I am pretty much through the first draft of the Sector's worlds, I am not quite satisfied with it. I am thinking that I am going to go back through each sub-sector, world by world, and see what changes need to be made. One thing that I am wondering is whether or not I have enough Amber and Red Zone worlds. Given that a lot of the planets are pretty much unexplored, with X star ports, should those be given clear rating or should they be rated as Amber until more is known about them.

I have started reading the first Lone Ranger story, written by Fran Striker in 1941. It is a bit of a slow read, but still interesting in the background that it gives to the Lone Ranger and Tonto, along with Silver.

One thing that I had never thought about until reading it was what difference did it make to use silver instead of lead in the Lone Ranger's revolvers. It turns out not that much. Lead is 11.34 g/cubic cm, while silver is slightly lighter at 10.49 g/cubic cm, or 92.5 percent of ...More Read More

Well, I have voiced my complaints about the baby-killer from Houston taking over the Classic Traveller thread, and I have been told that what he is doing is within the rules. I was advised to complain directly to him, but I suspect that nothing would make the shriveled organ that serves him as a heard (think Grinch, but in comparison, the Grinch's heart is several orders of magnitude larger), beat faster is knowing that I am not happy with what he is doing. If enough other people complain, he ...More Read More

Well, we will see what happens since I pretty much trashed the baby-killer from Texas opinion poll. I have been reading military history since I was nine, and none of the series mentioned would compare to the best military history writing. If you want to read good military writings, go read Bruce Catton on the U.S. Civil War, or maybe find a copy of 100 Best True Stories of World War 2, or spend some time reading Guadalcanal Diary, or Shots Fired in Anger. For something really griping, read ...More Read More

What I need to do is sit down and determine how many of the bugs in Sector Maker, and there are actually not that many, actually have to do with the way the Traveller 5 rules generate a system. The importance of a system is clearly derived from T5, and does not take the surrounding planets or sub-sector into account. Some of the other material which could be useful is not possible to plug in your own setting, and that looks to be the requirement under the T5 rules for a random die roll. The ...More Read More

I watched Ray Stevens do "Would Jesus Wear a Rolex" and "Mr. Businessman" a little earlier this evening. The songs hit something that I have been thinking about for the past couple of weeks.

I handle the Thanksgiving and Christmas food distribution for my church. We give out meals put together by one of the local grocery stores for those who are in need, doing this through an assistance center that the church supports. This past Thanksgiving we handed out more meals than we have handed out ...More Read More
