Some Bright Spots
|
#206
April 1st, 2020 02:30 AM |
We had some bright spots amid all of the gloom and doom from the media today. My wife's college roommate had been a missionary in Venezuela, but got out retired before things totally tanked there, and is not living in Florida. She called last week to let us know that a surprise was in the mail to us. The package arrived today, and I waited until my wife got home from the tax office to open it. Inside was a 12-pack of toilet paper with a Spanish label, and a note saying that these "special p

Powers That Be

The Powers That Be are upset with me for referring to the coronas virus which apear first in the Wuhan Province of China as the "Chinese Flu", hinting that such referencing could be viewed as "racist". It does appear that the Zhodani are not the only thought police in the Traveller Universe. I am not sure if they would have been upset if I followed the line if the Chinese and Iranian governments in blaming the US for developing the visur is some incredibly secret biological weapons lab and th

Longer Tax Season and Chinese Flu
|
#204
March 24th, 2020 01:58 AM |
Well, with the extension of the tax filing date to July 15th, my wife will be working a lot longer than she thought this tax season. We will have to see how many hours she will be putting in as time goes on, but she is currently making appointments for May. This will be an "interesting" year to say the least.
As I still am not sure to what extent comments regarding the Chinese Flu are allowed in the Discussion Forum, I will make them here for now. After doing some refresher reading online

Chinese Flu Panic
|
#203
March 21st, 2020 02:44 AM |
I have a somewhat jaundiced view of the media coverage of the Chinese Flu or whatever you wish to call it epidemic. Yesterday, the local newspaper announced that my county had 22 cases of it. The last census estimate of the county was a population of in excess of 500,000. Put that in to perspective. Less than one case per 10,000 inhabitants. I assume that the total will imcrease with additional testing, although that depends on a less than 100 per cent accurate test. So there might be less

Pi Day and Price Gouging
|
#202
March 15th, 2020 01:44 AM |
Well, my wife and I hit the local Bakers Square for Pi Day, which for the non-math inclined is March 14, 3/14. She did not get her usual French Silk, opting for the chocolate peanut butter cup. Quick tasty, by the way. After looking at all of the choices, I settled on my regular, and favorite, strawberry rhubarb. I love that strawberry rhubarb, although the rest of my family views me as very strange with that. Against they, they view me that way a lot. I keep telling them how boring it wou

Been A While

#201
March 12th, 2020 09:03 PM |
It has been a while since I last posted here, as I have been busy with a few things, and also spending some time working with Civilization 3 again and spending time on the Civ3 Fanatics forum. A change of pace is always nice.
Among other things, I did loose a very good friend and co-worker in February when my WW2 Class co-teacher passed away. Chris was 10 years younger than me, so this was not exactly expected. I still have not found out what happened, but I know the family very well, and

Swedish Teen

January 25th, 2020 11:03 AM |
Someone needs to explain to that Swedish teenage dropout that having a fossil-fuel powered snow thrower is a literal lifesaver for someone who is 68 with a LONG driveway to clear of heavy, wet, slushy snow. They also need to explain to her that without fossil fuels, Sweden would be starving with the number of people in it, and she would very likely not have the luxury of being "Vegan". How does she think all of those fruits and vegetables she is eating get to her table? Magic? A teleportati

Images and Uploads

#199
January 22nd, 2020 03:50 AM |
Now that I have finally, after only 7 years, figured out how to add images to a post, I have to decided how much to do. I have a LOT of copyright-free images, so it will be a case of deciding which ones best show what I am trying to explain, without my getting into trouble. I do need to get to work on my image books, and hopefully, that will start soon. What I probably need to do is set a schedule of doing a few images every day, rather than trying to do an entire booklet at once. I do need

D&D Ideas Et Al
|
#198
January 17th, 2020 05:33 AM |
Well, I guess my D&D idea thread is coming to an end. Once a moderator weighs in and starts telling me what I should do, that pretty much ends things. Disagreeing with a moderator tends to end badly. Been there, done that. I guess I will just work out some of my ideas, along with bouncing them off of a friend who used to be a VP at TSR, back in the day when Gary was still running the show.
There was another attack on Christians in Africa, but the attacks on Jews in New York are also very

Blocked Home IP

Well. I am back from home again, after being blocked for several days. I am not sure for the reason for the problem, or where the source was. I will just have to see how long the access lasts. While blocked, I did get some writing in on my D&D based story up to over 5500 words, so definitely not a short story. I have quite a ways to go on that. More later tonight.
Well, it is now Tuesday morning, somewhat early (of late, depending on your point of view), and it looks like I am still hav
