Mentoring Group

Well, a few weeks ago, a friend of mine at church asked me if I would mentor his two older sons and try to pass onto them some of the things that I know. I decided that would be okay, and worked up a reading list and some topics to discuss. I plan on conducting the sessions as more of a seminar type than me lecturing. It has been going now for three weeks, and the boys father has joined in wholeheartedly as I thought that he would. We have also picked up another young man, so now we are up

Master's Degree

For quite a few years, I have been having friends and family tell me that I should try for a Master's or Doctorate Degree, given my knowledge of history, military history in particular. My wife remembers that will visiting me as we were dating, having one of the ROTC professors tell her that I should not go for a Master's Degree but go straight for a Doctorate. I was told the same thing in 2006 while teaching World Geography at a local university, and how they could not keep me as an adjunct

Does not look like anyone is reading, but I will keep posting and see what happens.
My wife's surgery went well, and she is having minimal pain from the incision. Hopefully, things will continue to go well and she will have all of the splints off before Christmas. She will not have them off before Thanksgiving.

I will be up in a few hours, 0 dark thirty, to take my wife in for surgery to remove a plate in her arm. She broke it last year and then rebroke it, so this is the third surgery on the arm. We have a great deal of confidence in the surgeon, but she will be under a general, which does make us a bit anxious. She will be an outpatient, so we should be back home somewhere around 11 or so Chicago time. My wife is happy that instead of a cast, she will be in a splint for 2 weeks and then a remova

Good Day Bad Day

Today was one of those frustrating days. Yesterday I was doing well enough in the morning to have a late breakfast/early lunch with a friend from church as part of a fundraiser for the local American Legion Post. Then had a fairly pain-free or at least ignorable pain day through the evening.
Then today arrived. We remember to set our clocks back so took advantage of the extra hour of sleep. I got up, helped my wife get her nylons and shoes on, as with her double hip replacement she is

Religion and Government

I figure that I will post this here, under the assumption that it would be too hot a subject even for the pit.
One of my biggest problems with the government system and general tone of Traveller is its view of religion. The following are the government types associated with religion.
Classic Traveller
Quote:
D Religious Dictatorship. Government by a religious organization without regard to the specific needs of the citizenry.
