Hodge Podge

Well, it looks like I will not make it to Gary Con unless the rain holds off tomorrow, and even then, I will not be there long. Today was one of my bad days, so instead of heading to Lake Geneva, I stayed in and fought pain. That does get a bit frustrating.
I am still working on stuff for D&D, but I need to get some feedback from a friend before going a lot further. I have an idea for a campaign, but it would take several sessions to resolve.
For Space: 1889, henceforth S1889, my mind

Out Rim Sector & Space: 1889

March 7th, 2019 03:43 AM |
I am looking at restarting the Space: 1889 campaign from a few years back, so I am going over my Space: 1889 stuff again, refreshing my memory and jogging the memory cells into recall. This does not mean dropping the Piper-Norton Out Rim Sector, just means that I will take a break from the one to work on the other. I have a bunch of ideas for Space: 1889 that I would love to put into effect, and there is always looking at the Cepheus Engine to see what might be done to convert it into somethi

Piper-Norton Sector

Someone mentioned in a comment about the magic issue in the sector. If you have read any of the Andre Norton books, you realize that magic is part and parcel of her writings. Probably the most vivid example of this is in Voodoo Planet, one of the "Solar Queen" series. Then you have the "Witch World" series, which is a blend of fantasy and science fiction such as no other authors have ever attempted. Note, I read Witch World when if first came out. There is the Wyverns on Warlock, with thei

Mission BBQ

My wife and I went over to a new Mission BBQ that opened near us not that long ago. The food was fine, with the baked beans excellent with a nice smoky flavor and chunks of beef brisket in them. They are good enough to get a pint or quart for take home to eat during the remainder of tax season. I had the beef brisket, moist, while my wife had the pulled chicken. Next trip, I will try something else.
The coolest thing was this is the first time I have seen "Latrine" used on a men's room d

Odd Man Out

#102
March 3rd, 2019 02:06 AM |
As usual, I am odd man out again on Tech Levels, and also the Long Night. At the rate that I am going with changes to the Cepheus Engine between Tech Levels, government types, Law Levels, combat, and ship construction, I might have a new game with bits and pieces of the Cepheus Engine. That might make for an interesting copyright issue, but not something to worry about right now.
I still need to crunch some numbers on ship construction to figure out how to have both Hyperdrive and Jump Dri

Tech Levels

#101

I am not sure how much more I will stay in the discussion on Tech Levels, as I am of the view that Tech Levels are in the eye of the Game Master or referee or scenario producer. Having been in the Solomon Islands, you could argue that they are the same Tech Level as Australia, as you can get, albeit a bit slowly, whatever Australia has available. However, a large number of the people are still at the slash and burn agriculture level, along with subsistence fishing, using man-powered canoes.

Space: 1889

Now that Space Badger is back up and running, I have been thinking about Space:1889 again. That is one game that I really like, even if it is a bit quirky, and the aerial combat rules are not the best organized. Those are more like you chose what set you are using and go with that. Plus I like to play around with Victorian-era ships, as you have so many different types to play with. I also have a copy of the Jane's Naval War Game from 1898 that I have reworked a bit and used to run at conve

Chicago Fiasco

I have been reading and watching this latest fiasco playing out over the past week in Chicago. Stupid does not adequately describe it, although an extremely oversized ego combined with greed might start to. Having grown up around Chicago and aside from my Army time, having been in the overall metropolitan area, the Chicago police are going to handle something like this with extreme care to make sure that they have all of their "i" dotted and "t" crossed before doing anything. That means that

Rat Sitting 2

February 20th, 2019 11:39 AM |
While not exactly a person fond of rats, the two we are rat-sitting for my daughter have peeked my interest. My daughter is one of those wonderful people, and I am not saying that with any sarcasm whatsoever, who love all small and furry creatures. My son is the same way when it comes to cats, as am I. Show me a kitten that needs a home and I am a goner. Back to the rats.
I have been giving them Chex cereal as treats. Note, I love my Chex, so this is a stretch on my part, which my son a

Tough Day

I am not sure how much I will get done on the sector today, as my legs are letting me know that they are not happy, and need some rest. The left one especially needs some rest. I am supposed to be at church tonight, but right now, that one is up in the air, and then there is a dinner tomorrow night, which I hope that I can make. The forecast is for a wintery mix on Wednesday, which does not thrill me in the least. I need more of a spread between snow falls than we are getting. We are well
