So, we have finally begun SPaceBadger's Reaver's Deep Play-by-Post game. We're three weeks on, and ... we're figuring out all the challenging bits of a PbP.
There's the posting in fits and spurts - no one ever around when *you're* bored and want to interact... then everyone else is online and participating when *you're* stuck in traffic. Heh - would that be the PbP Corollary to Murphy's law?
Then there's the fun of trying to keep the In Character thread from getting too much OOC chatter i

OK, that isn't really true. It's fun zapping spambots. But, now Aramis went and blocked some more IPs and the count is down low enough I don't get to them in time. So, yeah, it's a bummer now.
As for the other duties.... Well, let's just say there are times you want to smack someone... but you have to stop and think whether they really broke the rules or not. I'll just say that some people get really personally attached to their opinions around here.
If you're posting here, make sure you

Well, it has been a while, hasn't it? I've been in and out, playing around in other worlds (SecondLife, for one), but always coming back to Traveller in the end.
So, a project I've been working on since ... well, a *really* long time ... is starting to come together. I have lost data with two separate problems: first, older Excel versions have trouble corrupting data when the file gets up to 50+MB, it seems; second, my portable hard-drive crashed (and, no, I hadn't backed it up adequately

Do folks still read the Moot Travellogs? If you do, I am going to try and return to CotI on a regular, but light, basis. How many of the old regulars are still here? Sing out, people!

Well, well, well. I finally got my friend on the boards here. The man who introduced me to playing Traveller, as well as other games beyond D&D and The Fantasy Trip, as well as being one of my best friends. Everyone, say hello to Rihmen.
This man and his brother have given me and our other friends many hours of great gaming experiences. Writer, artist, referee. Welcome to CotI, my friend! (Now, go post something!)
Hey Andrew, you got months that still need filling on that 2009

Been away a while

I've been away a while, playing in Second Life. It's been interesting, but we have discovered a few things:
It doesn't work well for actual role-playing in some ways. It's great for "being in character" when doing dialog, but combat doesn't work so well. The main problem being that we haven't yet found a way to simulate skills and such. So, my skill with a weapon is entirely dependent on my video game skills and the power of my puter.
It's a lot harder to create an interesting wor

The Groups function has been suspended! Stupid programmers and the vulnerabilities they leave behind! May the fleas of a thousand camels infest their loins! May 2's plague their binary code! May random magnetic fields forever pester their hard drives! (After they fix the vulnerability, of course...)
And, just as we were getting to a good spot, too! Aaaarrrrggghhh!!!!!!

Characters without weapons

Hooo boy! How many players don't bother to try and get Brawling as a skill when doing chargen? (probably loads) How many end up without any weapons in a dicey situation, later? (not nearly enough)
Referees, if you encounter a group without any Brawling skill, take away their weapons and see how they plan on handling themselves. Expedient weapons are one solution (sword-like things made of rebar or pipe, etc.). But, how many characters can take care of themselves when they don't have thei

PbP fun

Well, we have been flailing away at this PbP thing for a bit now, and I have a couple of observations:
1) Because we are all later in life and can't just grab a 3-hour block on one night a week (and we're in different time zones!) the interplay is definitely different from a FtF. But, that means the actual role-playing is at a premium, it seems. Though we've had a couple of incidents, there has been less "roll-" than "role-"playing.
2) Some good threads and tips to keep in mind for your
