I had to run to the Post Office this afternoon, and discovered that there was nowhere to park. That is about normal for the Post Office that I use on a Monday afternoon. So I drove down the street to the feed shop that some young friends of mine had bought, and chatted with one of the owners. Note, neither of us had masks on, as we both wear glasses, and masks do tend to fog up glasses. As we chatted, I looked at a small strip mall across the street. No cars in parking lot, no sign of life ...More Read More

I must admit I am getting pretty tired of the cracks about how the virus has been handled by governments, without a single constructive comment as to what could have been done better given the information available at the time. Twenty-twenty hindsight get sickening after a while. As for the media, they are so anti-Trump that they have lost all credibility with me, and quite a few other people. When it comes to the virus, I think that they are hoping millions will die, just to try to get rid ...More Read More

Well, things are beginning to get more interesting. With the Wisconsin Supreme Court tossing out most of the Wisconsin shut-down order, schools were left closed, it appears that a message got through to the Minnesota governor to start opening his state up. With Indiana opening up on a steady basis, and Iowa never having really closed up, Illinois and Michigan are beginning to look more and more like a couple of very odd states out. The Illinois Supreme Court has not, as yet, made any ruling ...More Read More

I spend about 6 months working with my Grandfather delivering propane gas to trailer courts and some houses in northwestern Indiana. We spend quite a bit of time talking in the truck as we drove about and also when we stopped for lunch. We had a regular route, and generally by the time we had the truck parked and were walking in the door, our booth and coffee were waiting for us. My Grandfather was born 3 months after my great-grandparents arrived in the United States from the Netherlands. ...More Read More

When the lockdown started, I told my friends that I thought that people would obey up to a point, and then they would start to rebel and say "enough is enough". I figured that would start occurring around May 1st. Some states started opening up around then, some did not. Now I think that things are starting to hit the snapping point. Businesses are starting to open in defiance of stay-at-home orders, a case in point being Tesla. If Tesla is not shut down, it will be very hard for the State ...More Read More

Tomorrow, on Mother's Day, it will be the 35th anniversary of my making the decision to terminate life support measures for our first son. Hopefully, that will not cast a pall on getting together with my daughter and her husband to celebrate it. We will see, but the weather is not going to be helping, based on the rain mixed with snow forecast. I hate lousy weather on Mother's Day.

I guess some people could argue that after 35 years, it should not trouble me, but then, they have never bee ...More Read More

The following is the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Quote:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

I talked with my wife tonight about moving to Indiana. The governor appears to be far more rational than the overfed billionaire we have in Illinois. The state has released a nicely detailed opening plan, including acknowledging that three counties are not ready to reopen yet, with the vast majority of the can reopen. For anyone interested, you can find the plan at the state of Indiana website. It is very well thought out, and has just about everything re-opening by May 23, the three proble ...More Read More

The mayor of New York, who at one time actually was running for the Democratic nomination for President is showing more and more his anti-Semitic leanings. I keep wondering what happens if he actually goes ahead and has several hundred Hasidic Jews arrested and tossed into jail. If that happens, I will be curious to see if the city practices its catch-and-release policy or decides to keep them locked up to punish them for disobeying the mayor. I suspect that they will stayed locked up for as ...More Read More

A couple of days ago was the commemorative day for the Armenian Genocide attempted by the Turks during World War One. While the Turks fiercely deny that anything took place, the evidence is overwhelming that it did. Just put Armenia into the search of Project Gutenberg, and look at the results. Then do the same at archive.org. There are quite a few people of Armenian descent in my area, including the orthodontist that worked with my two children.

The thing that struck me in going through ...More Read More
