The erstwhile mayor of Chicago, who unfortunately will be around to 2023, has decided to keep the Chicago Public Schools closed, probably until the New Year at the earliest. The schools will, in theory at least, be doing online learning. The city's Health Commissioner was urging that the schools open for among other reasons, the students are safer there from being shot by gangs, and also the poorer students will get a hot lunch (and in most cases a hot breakfast) paid for by the Federal gover ...More Read More

I never did get to post my comments on the first Atomic Bomb drop on the 75th anniversary, and I suspect that the subject would be too hot (pun intended) for the Pit.

While some of the Ivory Tower Designers had no compunctions whatsoever with using it on the Germans, they did have considerable reluctance to use it on the Japanese. i suspect that they had no idea whatsoever about the bestiality of the Japanese in China and elsewhere. Go download Volume 4 of the Australian Army history of Wo ...More Read More

A lot to think about these days, between the Chinese Flu, continuing mob action, defunding the police and law enforcement in general, taking down statues, and of course, rewriting history to be politically correct.

Being an historian, it is the last the bugs me the most. How are they going to write the influence of white European males out of history? Sub-Sahara Africa never got beyond tribal groups, nor did they make it to even the Bronze Age, as no metal smelting. Forget shipbuilding. ...More Read More

Just some random thoughts from the day.

The borderline imbecile mayor of Chicago has announced that anyone from Wisconsin that comes to Chicago or anyone from Chicago that visits Wisconsin must be self-quarantined for 14 days. How this dimwit plans to enforce this is totally unstated, but is basically impossible. All it does is reinforce the view that there is nothing between her ears but vacuum.

I see that the baseball players are now kneeling and in other ways showing disrespect to th ...More Read More

The Babylon Bee has a post today on people fleeing Chicago for safer places like the Middle East. The satire is in fleeing to the Middle East, the fleeing Chicago is not satire. Actually, fleeing Illinois is not satire, but a straightforward fact. Illinois, and Chicago, are loosing people in droves, in greater numbers than any other state in the country. I will concede that some of it is retirees heading south to warmer winter weather, as the winters can be nasty. A lot more is simply peop ...More Read More

I just watched the U.S. Army Field Band play and sing the "Battle Hymn of the Republic". and yes it brought tears to my eyes. It always does that, just like watching the Victory at Sea episode covering Pearl Harbor, where I finally have been. Julia Howe wrote the lyrics after seeing a review of the Army of the Potomac in November of 1861. Not all of the verses are sung nowadays, but all are worth reading. George McClellan was a great organizer, I will concede that, but a failure as a battle ...More Read More

Well, I must admit I would be interested in knowing what the moderators reactions would be to my posting all of the details on setting up a chemical weapons service can be found at the Combined Arms Research Library Digital Library. Between the stuff from World War One which you can find in the General Military History section, 1900 to 1939, and the World War 2 Operational Documents, there is everything that you need. That just from US documents. When you add in the enemy stuff, you really h ...More Read More

Well, I will have to see how much longer I am permitted to be here. Disagreeing with a moderator normally results in banning, justly or unjustly. So just waiting.

Still here, but it appears that I definitely got under the skins of a couple of our moderators. Always nice to know that all Marc does is write checks for the site payments, while the others do what they wish.

Again a lot to think about, aside from the idiocy being blathered about by the so-called "main stream media" or more properly called, the marketing arm of the Democratic Extremists. Illinois junior senator managed to embarrass herself and the state by complaining about Mt. Rushmore being "stolen" from the Sioux, who had stolen it from someone else. Some one needs to educate her that by her standards, all of Illinois was "stolen" from the Sauk, Fox, and Potowatomi tribes, so is she interested ...More Read More

There is a lot going on there days. Between anarchists and other insane people puling down statues, and even burning one of an ELK in Portland, it is hard to follow all of the insanity. I guess the ones that burned the Elk down had a strong dislike towards herbivores competing with them for greenery. Then there was the one to Albert Pike, who commanded a force of Indians from the then Indian Territory who were fighting for the Confederates. It would be interesting to bring up the fact that ...More Read More
