I thought I would start using this to share my major ideas about Traveller, post about gaming experiences, and provide links to web pages I like. I have two daughters, Harriet (12) and Charlotte (10) who I game with, along with 2 friends: Duncan who is my age and Mark who is their age. Other players their age may be added as well. I am finding it hard to access my copy of the T5 core rules because I can't get it out of Harriet's hands at the moment who is [i]fascinated[/i] with it.

As a secondary teacher, you occasionally end up with a year of work overload. The year 2016 was one of those years. But in these school holidays (here in Australia the Christmas holidays of 5 weeks are our summer holidays) I have managed 4 sessions to continue the Traveller Adventure using T5. There is a particular Mountain Hex within the nation of Senled on Aramanx where I want to locate an Amber Zone style adventure. This World Hex is therefore worth mapping. "Mountain" is the only terrain feature; there is also a political border in this hex between two states on this balkanized world.

One of the principles of T5 world mapping is "Map at the highest possible scale." As I have used the system to flesh out worlds, I have realised the rules have boiled this down to this (but not done in this order):

World Size
Continents / Oceans / Ice Caps
Mountains / Islands
Precipices / Chasms
Resources / Exotic
Cities
Noble Lands
... and some things that only occur on particular worlds like Vacuum Worlds.

The players are about to start on the more sandbox-style part of the campaign, which will be much less directed by me, although with key encounters inserted on relevant worlds.

I wanted to start with something I created, however, as an Amber Zone style adventure on Aramanx. I also want to experiment with the mapping rules in the T5 core rules. The players had been left with the negative reaction from Baraatsa at seeing the Anolas with them, and had correctly guessed the cause although I did not let on. Watching them debate what to do was fun - run to the wilderness? Contact the ship (how!? No satellite network or wireless)? Make the journey overland directly to Sadi and the starport? This session I instituted a few things to help. I printed off the Range/Size page from the rules to help the players understand this key concept. I also printed off an Imperial Calendar, and got the players to mark off time as it passed. The players continue to run the Ships Accounts. All of these things remove administrative burdens and get the players more involved in key mechanics of the game.

We had another session yesterday, and worked our way through "In Search of Longer Legs ..." where the players land at Natoko ahead of the news of the brooch being discovered, and are faced with six weeks to pick up cargo, or a deal to obtain demountable fuel tanks in exchange for taking supplies to prospectors in the Patinir system.

I am delighted that Cirque has arrived, and first impressions are very good. I'm still reading it, and I will almost certainly run it. Set in the Spinward Marches just post the Fifth Frontier War, it has really interesting story elements including dealing with the real cost of war, and a great idea for a touring circus filled with various Sophonts and Beasts. I have finished mapping Natoko. This is a much better version and contains a key for clarity.

I read "In Search of Longer Legs" more closely for detail about Natoko. It is a world where Tukera has a base for ship maintenance, there's a naval base and nothing else. The entire economy is based on one megacorporation's presence along with the Imperial Navy. Based on my mapping, Tukera simply picked a spot for a settlement in the Twilight Zone that was convenient for setting up ship maintenance and general living, and now there are some settled rural districts nearby.
