[SBRD] Progress on Backdating the Setting

Just an update for the players on my progress in backdating the setting from year 1105 Imperial (Travellermap data) to year -787 Pre-Imperial (that's about 3731AD - I haven't yet figured the Vilani date equivalent w those darn 486-day years ). I chose that as an interesting period for your adventures - enough years after the famous raids of Duquesne and Izanak for them to be legendary, still plenty of other Reavers out there to worry about, Drexilthar ...More Read More

[SBRD] Equipment/Weapons and Related Rules

Notes, House Rules, and GM Interpretations related to Equipment (including Weapons)

Personal Electronics: The standard Traveller personal communicators, hand computers, and other personal electronics seem a bit large, heavy, expensive, and generally clunky compared to what we are familiar with today in 2013 at TL 7/8. To add to the verisimilitude (appearance of truth or believability) of the setting, I prefer to allow smaller, lighter, and cheaper mode ...More Read More

[SBRD] Ships and Related Rules

Notes, House Rules, and GM Interpretations related to Ships

Ship Fuel Usage Halved: Standard ship designs IMTU for use in frontier areas (which applies to much of Known Space during the Long Night) carry enough fuel for two jumps at the ship's max jump range, plus two months operations of the ship's powerplant. To avoid having to re-design every standard Traveller ship, this is accomplished by cutting fuel usage in half, so that standard designs will function acco ...More Read More

[SBRD] Reavers' Deep - Setting for Adventure!

I have been reading every bit of historical notes that I can find about Reavers' Deep, and studying the maps at The more I read about this place, the more two things become clear: (1) this is going to be an AWESOME place to adventure! (2) I have a lot more work cut out for me than I had envisioned in deciding to run this campaign.

Reaver's Deep lies in an area where the furthest edge of Vilani colonization at the end of the First I ...More Read More

Sigh, another evening too tired to be very creative or organized. More Misc Notes.

Helped Michael and Chris (ErianFrost and ChaosBennett) with their chargen earlier, which gave us a chance to test out the Point-Buy system. It also showed us that my old Homebrew Extended Chargen is really just as bad as Books 4, 5, 6, 7 for creating skill-monsters, but then reducing the skills to reasonable levels w Point-Buy worked fairly well.

I found and reviewed again Bloo's Point-Buy system (thread he ...More Read More

[SBRD] Reavers' Deep - Table of Contents

*** Instead of this Table of Contents, I recommend that you start with the SBRD Quick Reference. ***

This will be a Table of Contents for all general reference materials for the [SBRD] Reavers' Deep play-by-post campaign, linking to other posts in this blog, threads in the forums, and other materials related to the campaign. To begin with, some of the items listed will not have links, as I am using this also as an outline of what I need to do, bu ...More Read More

Hi, y'all. As you may have noticed, I went ahead and chose a name for the campaign: [SBRD] Reavers' Deep, and started a thread in PbP OOC for y'all to post the public part of your character sheets (the part you want the other PCs to know about, in case you are holding back any background details to reveal later).

I was feeling good today and got some work done at the office, but I'm not sure my tired brain is up to writing much on this campaign tonight, so this blog post will just have a few tidbi ...More Read More

Getting Ready to Play (new PbP game)

It looks like we will have a group of 4 to 6 players for this game, which seems like a nice size to have. So far we have 3 Yes, 1 Maybe, 1 No, and 2 that I have contacted but not heard back from. (Edit: Now 6 players, 2 waiting to hear back from.) (Edit 2: Full 8 players now; WooHoo!)

Once we know who all will be playing, I recommend the following for putting the group together and getting ready to play:

1) Choose Campaign Setting and Initial Activi ...More Read More

Huh, I'm new to this blogging stuff and forgot that blog posts will appear in order from newest to oldest, which is sort of the reverse of what I had planned in laying out info about my new PbP game. For prospective players, I recommend that you read in order from oldest to newest, the way I planned.

*** EDIT: Actually, rather than read through everything from oldest to newest, I'd now recommend that you just go to the SBRD Quick Reference and read from there. ***

Cinematic Level for New PbP Game

One choice for the campaign that I forgot to include with the setting discussion, and am now thinking will be too large to edit into that blog post, is the level of Grittiness or Cinematic Realism. I see this as dividing into roughly four levels of realism, which I will detail below.

I will say up front that my personal preference as a player is Level Two: Light Cinematic, but I am willing to GM levels One, Two or Three as chosen by the majority of players ...More Read More
