I guess I have greatly gotten behind with Daily Thoughts, as it has been two weeks since my last posting. I am not sure if I can get caught up, but I do need to post more than every two weeks.

With respect to my health, I keep alternating good days and bad days, but even that is not a given. I was at a Christmas get-together for the Sunday School class, and was doing okay, then suddenly, someone put a knife into the bottom of my left foot. That pretty much ended the evening for me, as I w ...More Read More

No, the Grey does not refer to a less intensive Black Friday, but to the clouds and fog that have settled in for the duration. I have only ventured out once on a Black Friday, and that was quite a few years ago to get an extremely good deal on a heavy duty mixer set for my wife, which has been well used over the years. Needless to say, the store was not that crowded.

Right now, a lot of people would love to see some sun. It is amazing how much your body is tuned to the sun. I discovere ...More Read More

I found a book on New Zealand from 1908 which looks a lot about how I picture the planet Vinland in the Out Rim Sector. The population is a bit higher, but if gives a good idea of how things might be if written by a studious visitng author. As I am trying to work up a longer planet description for it, this will be a great help. I may borrow some of the names of plants and trees for Vinland from the New Zealand book. I will have to see. The Tech Level is about right as well, roughly Tech Le ...More Read More

Well, my idea for a Moot discussion of the attempted genocide by Turkey of the Armenians appears to have been shot down, so I will try here and see what happens. There is a fair amount of material on Project Gutenberg regarding the evidence for it, so of it pretty graphic, and from a wide range of witnesses including Germans, of all people. The Kurds appear to have joined the Turks without a whole lot of encouragement, along with the Syrian Arabs and the Iraqis. One German war correspondent ...More Read More

The title to the thread sums it up, although this might lead to some backlash from the management. Marc badly needs an editor to keep him from making massive mistakes, such as the following.

The ship’s Power System consumes fuel in an extremely rapid (and inefficient) process, channelling the required energy to the Jump Drive
That is from T5.10, Book 2, page 118, bottom. The ship is fusing, quite inefficiently, large quantities of Liquid Hydrogen to supply power to the Jump Drive. Bas ...More Read More

Well, I was not doing well enough this morning to visit my son, and the legs are still bothering me, but room service needed to clean the room. So I am out in the lobby on a hotel computer typing this.

We did have a good stop in Shipshewana for food and shopping. We bought Christmas/Birthday presents for three people. That is what happens when birthdays and Christmas are on top of each other. The presents can be for either, but it does mean that all of the presents are bunched in a month ...More Read More

This weekend I will be in Michigan, so I might not be around a lot. First stop though is in Shipshewana, Indiana for some shopping in the Amish stores and also to visit, probably more than once, the Blue Gate Restaurant. Such terrific food there.

Still putting together the booklets, and keep finding more stuff to add. I think that simplest thing is simply more booklets. I can see why Dover is selling their clip art books with 32 pages. That makes it a smaller package, and also keeps fro ...More Read More

Well, I have another project on the drawing board. AlexisDownPort posted a review of the latest Cepheus Engine Vehicle Design Guide, so I went back and took a look at my PDF copy. (Yes, I bought it as it always helps to know that the competition is doing.) I will admit that the illustrations are nice, and I will not make any comment on the future vehicles. What they come up with there is not really my concern. The historical stuff is a different category however. For the most part, that i ...More Read More

Well, I have reached 68, which is the age that my Dad was when he died suddenly of a heart attack. However, Dad was a smoker and never managed to quit, although he tried several times, and the heart attack was related to his smoking. Hopefully, I will be good for a few more years yet. I do wish that I had felt the way I do this morning last Friday, as I would have been able to make the Men's Retreat. Just have to look to the future and not look back on the past, as that cannot be changed.

  #184 New October 23rd, 2019 04:24 PM
A couple of days ago, a conservative columnist started up a series of columns about the "firearms every man had to own in order to retain his man card." Now, I strongly suspect that the said individual never bothered to think about how many men in this country do not personally own firearms, without even considering those is other countries where firearm ownership is strictly limited. Then there is the fact that, so far, his list is up to 6 and counting, which means that even more men who do ...More Read More
