PbP is getting going with some action

All righty! The 30th Anniversary PbP is finally getting into some action!
We are coming out of our popsicle units, adrift in a damaged ship with nobody else around (Edit: so far as we know end edit). One of the players seems to be a (quite literally) "take charge" kind of guy. (Edit: Actually, more than one... end edit) Scarily, he also has a really big gun, and seems just a little too eager with things that go boom. (At least from an engineer's PoV. )
It's been odd, as several fo

A draft of my chargen rules
|

OK, I have a draft of my "house rules" out there, finally. The thread is here. Please give honest feedback (here or there) about it (I can take it!).
The idea is: 1) to expand the careers (much like TNE) without simply having 400+ careers with different tables for each, 2) to get some of the flavor of the expanded systems without having to roll each year..., and 3) to be able to create more mundane characters (especially as NPCs).
I apologize for the skills document - it should have bee

RL sad news

Today, one of my uncles passed away. He had struggled for a very long time with a rare illness (compounded by other, more mundane, illnesses and their medications), and my mother called yesterday (Sunday) to let me know he wasn't long for this world. He passed away this morning.
He was a pool builder for all the years I can remember (owned his own business - though I think he worked at Kaiser Aluminum before that), rode motorcycles until in his 50s (he and his wife), practically built my m

Back from the Wilderness

Well.... I am back in civilization, but I'm not sure I like it. It was wonderful to not even hear the news for a week (except for the bridge crash in Minneapolis-St Paul ), have my cell turned off, no computer. Of course, we also had no air conditioning or flush toilets, but that's what camping is all about.
I am now waiting for Far-Trader to return and un-pause our little PbP. Cause, civilization is a good thing, too.

Out of here for a week

Well, tomorrow morning it's off to the wilds for a week of Boy Scout summer camp! My son and 14 other boys (and a few adults) with some other troops up in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, living in tents, drinkin' bug juice, slapping skeeters, swimming in the lake....
I think we have straightened out the conversations in our 30th Ann. PbP CT game. So, now we anxiously wait for our ref to return so we can find out what happens when we wake up from our freezers.

Getting to play
|

OK, we finally kicked this off - originally without our ref! Scott Martin and myself started a PbP thread so we could say we'd started this thing on the proper day. Now Dan has made it through his visitors' ambush, and we are getting things going. Happy Travelling!
I will say, though, that the way this has launched has made me somewhat unsatisfied. Because we didn't have everyone all in one spot at one time, there was no bar fight. It just seems incomplete without a bar fight. F

Gonna play a game!

Well, I'm finally gonna get to play a game! Far-Trader (aka Dan Burns) is gonna run a 30th Anniversary Classic Traveller adventure starting Sunday - right here on CotI!
Dan has asked that we not disclose what goes on, but I'm hoping to get to blog the fun we have at some future date. But, if you haven't considered joining up yet, go look at his blog and give it a good hard think!

To get this thing rolling, I'll let you in on what I've been trying to accomplish (Traveller-wise) when RL hasn't interfered. I have three things I've been banging away at in my spare time for the last year or more:
1) A newer/different/better/whatever CT/MT style chargen. I want it to accommodate NPCs (like the mechanic working on your air/raft or the barkeep in the starport) as well as it accommodates PCs. This is hard. It entails creating a skills structure, careers (with the attendan
