[SBRD] Game Starts Friday!

Another "not good" day for working. I made some suggested revisions to the Fortunate Son Ship Document, wrote some stuff about equipment, copied Sabredog's stuff about the Launch - not a lot accomplished. Kinda stuck on the ship-share stuff, and too medicated to think clearly to figure it out.

Finally feeling a little better now, and here it is after 1AM. Maybe get some work done now, but can't stay up too late, due to med appts tomorrow.

We will start the ...More Read More

[SBRD] Fortunate Son First Draft

Didn't get as much done today as I had hoped, but here is the first draft of the Fortunate Son specs, details, and deckplans.

I didn't get all of the details of shipboard equipment finished, or the "ship's business" part w shares and finances, or the current condition of the ship.

But I did get all of Sabredog's specs and notes added and edited, and a lot of additional material added to go with his stuff, and his deckplans added, so you can look at all of tha ...More Read More

[SBRD] Possible Homeworlds and Pre-Game Itinerary

Finally, here is the long-awaited list of possible homeworlds for you to choose from for your character, and also some of the worlds on the pre-game itinerary of the Fortunate Son, from when Hampton Rhodes took over as Captain and re-named the ship, through start of game as you come out of Jump in Reavers' Deep sector.

If you need to set some date in your backstory and want to count backward from the start of the game, here it is: 8 August, 3731 ...More Read More

[SBRD] Getting Ready to Begin Play This Week

We are coming up quickly on our intended date to Start Playing the Game, August 8 or 9, depending on exactly when everything comes together. I am working madly on the setting, have several hooks planned to toss out for your consideration. Sabredog is working on the ship and deckplans. The rest of you have your characters prepared to one degree or another.

Here is what I see going on between now and starting play; feel free to ask questions or make su ...More Read More

[SBRD] Examples of Play

Background: the PCs have landed their ship at a Class D starport on a backwater world in Reavers' Deep, have already checked in and gotten connected to local infonet, have received their "Welcome, Visitors" message with local rules and advice to visitors. It is local night-time, so they won't be able to make any formal business contacts until morning, but they are eager to get out and work on less formal contacts, rumors, etc.

This example will refer to players using the ...More Read More

Sigh. Getting a bit depressed and disillusioned with the random chaos that is a pregenerated Traveller sector.

You may have seen some of my threads and forum posts last night as I was delving into the expected Vilani colonization patterns in Daibei sector. I have all of the Daibei sector data in my database now, ready to query, sort, slice and dice. Should be a piece of cake to map out the prime Vilani colonies, associated outposts, then advance through historic expansions during the Rul ...More Read More

Got a lot done tonight on the MS Access database, now that I can work on it more comfortably on my home laptop. Some new queries and a nice form to make the backdating easier to keep track of.

Two steps forward, one step back... the Reavers' Deep data is looking good, but I discovered that the Daibei sector data is messed up, will need to look at it tomorrow to figure out why... possibly something in the fixed-width data being off from what I had for the Deep.

The good news is that I finally located my installer CDs and have successfully installed MS Office Pro and Adobe Acrobat to my home laptop. This means that when I am up to it, I can do actual work that I can get paid for, here at home on this laptop which is much more flexible for me to use in bed or sitting down (my office laptop is really more of a tiny desktop w folding monitor - heavy and with terrible battery life, really only practical to use when docked on my desk). This will be very hel ...More Read More

[SBRD] Drama Points and Related Rules

Notes, House Rules, and GM Interpretations related to Drama Points

First, here are some examples of what I see as the purpose of Drama Points, particularly in a Light Cinematic game such as we have chosen for this campaign:
It is common in many kinds of adventure fiction (books, movies, comics) for the heroes to be placed in a dire situation, and by ingeniously distracting the villain or having some trick pre-planned or taking advantage of some fortuito

[SBRD] Progress on Backdating the Setting

Just an update for the players on my progress in backdating the setting from year 1105 Imperial (Travellermap data) to year -787 Pre-Imperial (that's about 3731AD - I haven't yet figured the Vilani date equivalent w those darn 486-day years ). I chose that as an interesting period for your adventures - enough years after the famous raids of Duquesne and Izanak for them to be legendary, still plenty of other Reavers out there to worry about, Drexilthar ...More Read More
