Tolkien and Wagner drank from the same public well, which is a very different thing than stealing one thing from another.
In fact, Tolkien, as a scholar of Norse and Anglo-Saxon cultures (and who could read and write in both languages), drew from deeper material than Wagner did; so if anything, his story is a fuller and more authentic interpretation of the ancient Germanic legends than Wagner's version.
